I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

While you are waiting for the plumber to arrive, clear away any significant possessions from the area, and wipe up any water or place a bucket to catch the drips. If you have turned the mains water off, also switch off the hot water heating as well.

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
